In 1984, Reagan had 54.5 million votes. Kerry had 55.6 million votes in this election (<sarcasm>Wow, that's more than Reagan got! I guess his policies are held in higher regard than Reagans!</sarcasm>), and he lost. The electorate is larger. People have babies, babies grow up, the number of eligible voters increases. So if you're going to talk about a mandate, quit using disingenuous interpretation of the numbers. |
